Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by your local Auto Logic……..the Logical Choice.
Today is McHappy Day at your local McDonald’s
I hope everyone can take a bit of time to drop by your local McDonald’s Restaurants in Meaford, Port Elgin or either Owen Sound location to assist in raising funds for three new neonatal incubators needed in the Intensive Care Nursery at the Owen Sound Regional Hospital.
In the heart of the hockey playoffs, here’s some random thoughts.
Netminder Matt Murray of the Pittsburgh Penguins has rocketed onto the scene.
Of course this is of no surprise to Sault Ste Marie Greyhound fans, or the Attack.
Murray shutout Owen Sound 3 times in his OHL career, twice in the playoffs, and one of those playoff blankings was an epic 1-0 overtime victory over Jordan Binnington in the 3rd longest game in Owen Sound history.
I will admit a greater level of surprise at the ascent of Alan Quine with the New York Islanders.
Quine, who was a second overall pick by Kingston in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection, had a decent but from from dazzling Junior career.
Over 4 OHL seasons, Quine was dealt twice and played for 3 different teams ( Kingston, Peterborough and Belleville )……. all in the same division. That’s rare.
And finally, congratulations to Mitch Marner of the London Knights winner of the OHL Red Tilson Award as the most outstanding player.
On my ballot, Marner was the most outstanding, but the question for 19 General Managers and scouting teams is, ‘ how did he go 19th overall in 2013 ? ‘
Happy McHappy Day
I’m Fred Wallace
