Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by your local Auto Logic…….the Logical Choice.
Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera has suggested that only the losing coach of the Super Bowl be interviewed following the NFL’s Championship Game.
Rivera’s remarks came on the heels of the highly public meltdown by his star quarterback Cam Newton following the Panthers loss to Denver this year.
In Rivera’s mind, he doesn’t think players should have to relive the experience of losing so soon after the game.
There’s two schools of thought here…..
One, sports is all about winning and losing, yet it’s also about handling winning and handling losing, or showing character, that is, not gloating in victory, not pouting in defeat; being gracious and professional in victory or being professional and accountable in defeat
Fair enough.
But TV changed the world of sports and will likely forever will consistently change what we watch and how we watch it.
And the game after the game, the media scrums, the news conferences, the post game clips are as prominent now as the kickoff.
Personally, I can’t remember the last time I hung around following the Super Bowl, Stanley Cup or World Series to view the winners and the losers perspective.
For me, the game is the thing, but that game obviously has changed.
I’m Fred Wallace
