Hi this is Fred Wallace with Off the Wire, brought to you by your local Auto Logic….the Logical Choice.
Last Wednesday night, the Owen Sound Attack unpacked their gear at the Erie Insurance Arena in preparation for a game the following night against the Otters.
While the Attack were preparing to face the Otters, the building was preparing to host an NBA D League game between the Bayhawks and the visiting Iowa Energy.
While I know very little about basketball, I thought it would be a neat experience to stay downtown for the game.
The ticket I purchased put me at courtside….. Actually, I may as well have been on the Bayhawks roster since the Assistant Coach and stats guy sat in the chair beside me and I heard every word from coach Bill Peterson during every huddle at each time out….the Bayhawks weren’t moving the ball.
The game ?
It was a mix; Some really sloppy moments with desperation shots and passes to nowhere, then, out of nowhere, some truly brilliant and powerful athletic plays.
For the Iowa squad D.J. Stephen was among the more visible players while the Bayhawks leader, without doubt, was guard Keith Appling who scored 29 points.
But alas, Appling’s play wasn’t enough and the Energy won 106-102 sending Erie to their 14th straight loss.
I can now say I’ve been to a Raptors game and now a D-League game. Truthfully, given the opportunity, I’m more likely to go to another Bayhawks game than an NBA contest in the future.
I’m Fred Wallace
