Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by Auto Logic…the Logical Choice.
I don’t pay a great deal of attention to Canadian University sports, primarily because I’m the better part of 2 hours away from the closest institution or CIS game.
Sure, every now and then a local athlete or an Attack alumni gets a little bit of exposure for an accomplishment at a post secondary school sporting event, but by and large, the level of interest, for me, is minimal at best.
That’s why I find it strange that I’m checking for the CIS Basketball quarterfinal scores from Vancouver yesterday, specifically, the Ryerson Rams result.
I went to Ryerson from 1979 to 82 and campus sports weren’t a prominent part of student life.
The hockey team regularly lost by double digits, the one volleyball game I attended was a smoke show, and the Men’s Basketball program went 41 games without a win during my days at Rye High.
Now, 34 years later, the Rams entered the CIS Basketball Championship Tournament as the # 1 seed emerging from a deep pool of Ontario schools.
I truly enjoyed the Ryerson years, but I’m certain those days would have been even more memorable had basketball, or athletics in general, been a greater part of the school fabric.
I’m Fred Wallace
