Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by your local Auto Logic….the Logical Choice.
I watched the Championship Game in the CWOSSA Girls Hockey Tournament last week at the Julie McArthur Regional Rec Centre in Owen Sound and have to say, I was highly impressed.
If you cut the ponytails off, you’d be hard pressed to determine what gender you were watching, plus based on the perpetual speed and competitive nature of the game, I say that as a compliment.
The Southwood Sabres won the the championship game, holding off the Kincardine District Knights 5-3.
It wasn’t hard to pick out Taylor Trussler of Southwood, not because she scored twice, but rather because she was the most consistently notable player on the surface
That’s not to suggest she dominated….there were very good performances on both sides of the contest which is a tribute to Minor Hockey systems like Kincardine and certainly the upgraded programs like Saugeen Maitland and wherever the Cambridge Girls play their elite hockey.
Along with the speed and execution of the game, I was impressed with the endurance exhibited. Yes, fatigue was a factor when 6 goals were scored in the last 8 minutes, but playing 15 periods of hockey over a day and a half, that kind of letdown is not unexpected.
So good luck to Southwood at the OFSAA Championship this week in Stratford and congratulations to the Kincardine Lady Knights for almost getting there.
I’m Fred Wallace
