Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by your local Auto Logic….The Logical Choice.
Owen Sound Minor Sports Summer Registration is set for tomorrow night at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre from 5:30-8 pm, launching the next phase in the cycle of youth sports.
Also being launched tomorrow is the ” Dome ” project
The proposed Sports Dome for the city of Owen Sound, and for the greater Grey County Region, would utilize existing space from one of the fields at the Kiwanis Soccer Complex and in that space developers would construct a multi-purpose indoor facility.
Close your eyes and you can see immediate benefits for every level of Soccer and Futsal.
Now close your eyes tighter and see if you can’t expand the scope of this vision…..
The potential exists that a sports dome would enhance training opportunities and skill levels for a variety of sports including Football, Rugby, Baseball, Field Lacrosse, Lawn Bowling and…..well, it’s limitless
Furthermore, this sports dome could also be a terrific showcase for a variety of shows; car shows, golf shows, Trade Shows and more.
The Kiwanis Soccer Complex is the envy of almost every out-of-towner who comes to the city for soccer or field lacrosse. I hear it many times a year.
Adding to the Complex with an enclosed dome structure would increase that level of envy multiple times and give our athletes the opportunity to train and develop throughout the calendar year, whether their sport or activity was in season or not.
Of course, I’ve put the cart waaay in front of the horse here, as a fundraising initiative would be needed to finance the development.
But with Summer Sports essentially launching tomorrow, now is the perfect time to launch the very real possibility of a city and regional sports dome.
I’m Fred Wallace
