Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by your local Auto Logic- The Logical Choice.
Based on the game Sunday and the parade on Tuesday, one would think the Denver Broncos won the Super Bowl.
And to a large degree, that’s accurate.
The real winner of the Super Bowl, as often is the case, was Las Vegas
Super Bowl 50 drew more than $ 130 million in wagering…..$ 130 MILLION DOLLARS !!
And from the bookmakers standpoint it was mostly good.
Whether you’re a serious sports gambler or a casual fan, did you not think the Panthers who went 15 & 1 in the regular season would win again, most likely to cover the spread that wavered between 5 & 1/2 and 6 points during the lead up week ?
The Underdog Broncos won and that meant Vegas cashed in on those riding the favorite.
Did you not think the Panthers and Broncos would put up HUGE offensive numbers in the Championship Final ?
Instead, it was 24-10, a 34 point game and the defensive nature of that game meant Las Vegas won that revenue stream too.
And finally, did you not think that Carolina quarterback Cam Newton was a good choice to be game MVP, and if not Newton, then Peyton Manning if the Broncos won ?
Wrong again.
When Denver linebacker Von Miller took the honour at 12-1 odds it meant Las Vegas bookmakers cashed again.
True, the Denver Broncos won the Super Bowl, but the truly big winners were the betting houses in Las Vegas.
I’m Fred Wallace
