Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
It’s been a notable week in Canadian sports both near and far.
Far away, Milos Raonic is preparing for his Australian Open Semifinal match against the # 2 seed Andy Murray.
Yesterday, Raonic looked very composed as he eliminated Gael Monfils in 4 sets to advance to the final 4.
A guy from Thornhill, Ontario, Raonic, the # 13 seed at the tournament, is in the conversation at the Australian Open with Djokovic ( # 1 ), Murray ( # 2 ) and Federer ( # 3 )- that’s remarkable.
Elsewhere, Owen Sound skier Larisa Yurkiw heads into the stretch of the World Cup season with plenty of momentum.
In her last 7 outings, be it World Cup or training, Yurkiw has posted 4 Top 5 finishes and 5 top 10’s.
Finally from a Canadian standpoint, we told you earlier about Connor Roberts making the Hockey Canada entry for the World Youth Olympics.
The friends of the Roberts family have established a ” GoFundMe ” page to assist with travel costs to Norway.
I’m sure you can appreciate the desire to see your youngster play on such a big stage.
If you’d like to participate in the junket, simply search ” Canadian Dream, Connor Roberts, Go Fund Me. “
Great week for Canadian athletes, near and far.
I’m Fred Wallace
