Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
There was big news last week for local soccer.
The Ontario Soccer League invited Owen Sound Grey Motors United to return to Central Region action for a second season.
Owen Sound’s first season in the OSL wasn’t poor, but it certainly wasn’t great in terms of the results and that left Owen Sound potentially facing relegation to a lower tier for 2016.
The bottom line is that Grey Motors United went 4-10 & 2 and finished last in the Central.
From the outside, the biggest issue for Owen Sound was goal scoring as they were blanked 7 times last year, including all 4 games played in August.
But in fairness to the Owen Sound side, you can point to September when they were unbeaten in their final 3 matches, albeit one of those victories was a ” walkover.
Still, Owen Sound lost 3 games by a 1 goal margin and had they scored once more, or allowed one less in those games, the mark of 4-8 & 5 would have put them in contention for a 4th place finish.
I know, I’m playing with numbers here, but with a year in the elite OSL under their belts, it’s not a stretch to imagine 2016 could be vastly better for Grey Motors United, especially now that they know when they’ll be competing.
I’m Fred Wallace
