Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
I outlined yesterday, what I felt were the top 10 local sports moments of 2015.
That’s not to say the Top moments were necessarily my ” favorite ” moments.
Here’s a few favorites that didn’t make the Top 10.
In chronological order;
Rogers Hometown Hockey comes to Owen Sound and the CUPE Local 443 Penguins win the Cheering Contest….and $ 500 from Sportchek
Later in March, the Penguins lost the Novice House League Championship in overtime to Armstrong Water- a heartbreaker, but what a game.
Kendrick Nicholson makes his NHL debut as ref in January at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa. I saw it from a private box courtesy of Reid-McArthur Tours.
Elmvale’s Chris Bigras establishes the Attack record for career points by a defenceman in February
April was big; Joey Hishon scores his 1st NHL goal for Colorado and then later that month I discover there’s NOWHERE better to watch the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs than Las Vegas, Nevada.
On an Alaskan trip, I manage to see Major League Baseball games at Seattle & Oakland.
In mid June, Andrew Shaw & the Chicago Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup…again.
A month later, the annual Jeff Preston Celebrity Golf Tournament raises $ 50,000 for Muscular Dystrophy research
Georgies Pocket wins the $ 77,000 Balanced Image Final at Hanover Raceway on the last day of August.
On back to back days, first at Saugeen Bluffs for the Bob Atkinson Memorial Meet and then at 4th Division Canadian Training Centre near Meaford, the Bluewater Elementary Cross Country events are hugely successful.
In mid November, the OHL blanks Russia 3-0 at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore.
And 2 weeks later, the Bears in Blue Attack Game raises $ 34,500 for Prostate Cancer Research
Yes, it was a good year…a very good year.
Here’s to 2016
I’m Fred Wallace
