Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
So here we are, just days away from the ” BIG ” day, and yet my sporting thoughts are drifting to warmer days and new beginnings.
Part of the thought process was inspired by a couple of announcements late last week.
First, the Owen Sound Senior NorthStars announced that Keith Peer would take over as their General Manager.
Randy Jackson who’s primarily acted in that role over the last half decade isn’t stepping away, or even aside, but merely taking a step back and will act as an assistant for Peer during the transition.
I doubt Keith Peer will need a lengthy training session having already done essentially the same duties with the Junior B NorthStars for past few years.
The other note that caught my eye was from Softball Canada who announced the list of 40 players named to the 2016 Players Pool of which 22 will attend a Mens National Team Development Camp in June at Kitchener.
The names that jumped off the page from the list included Adam Alexander, Travis Jones, Paul Koert, Ty Sebastian, Andy Skelton and Blake Underwood; players from our region or players who have played locally.
Of course Summer in Owen Sound will feature a touring Australian Team, the Ontario Bantam Boys Championship, the PWSA Women’s Intermediate Tournament plus the Canadian Bantam Boys Championship.
Everyone looks forward to Christmas.
There’s a lot to look forward to in 2016.
I’m Fred Wallace
