Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
The Owen Sound Attack are at Barrie tonight to face the Colts in Ontario Hockey League action.
And while I’ll be watching the game, watching the out of town scores and watching the standings, I’ll also be quite interested in underage Matthew Struthers.
Struthers, who was selected to be a member of the upcoming World Under 17 Challenge in British Columbia, is on the verge of establishing an Owen Sound record…..IF he scores.
I noticed Matthew Struthers’ birthdate is December 26, 1999, which means he’s still 15 and one of the youngest players to ever play in the OHL for Owen Sound.
So I wondered, who was the youngest player to ever score a goal for the Platers or the Attack ?
Are you ready for the answer…..?
Payton Liske !!
Liske, a first round selection of the Attack in 2004, was born on November 28th, 1988.
When he scored his first OHL goal, October 9th, 2004 at Erie, he was 15 years and 315 days old.
So, doing the math with Matthew Struthers’ birthdate of December 26, 1999, it means Struthers must score a goal before October 27th of this year to become the youngest Owen Sound OHL’er to score.
Looking at the schedule, Struthers has 6 games; tonight at Barrie, tomorrow night at Kitchener, Sunday afternoon at home to Windsor, October 21st against Guelph, October 23rd at London and finally October 24th at home to Flint, to pot his first OHL goal and become the youngest to do so in an Owen Sound jersey.
I’m Fred Wallace
