Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
The fate of Owen Sound Grey Motors United as it pertains to their place in the Ontario Soccer League hangs in the balance, and quite likely won’t be established until the New Year.
In their debut season, Grey Motors finished last in the 9 team Central Region standings and thus are candidates to be relegated to a lower division.
While they’re not proud of their place in the standings, there’s two very positive notes to be taken from the year.
One, while they were 9th, they were also just 4 points away from finishing 4th. In Soccer, a win is worth 3 points, so 1 more win and 1 more tie and Grey Motors would have been a top 4 club and relegation wouldn’t be a topic of discussion.
And two, in terms of goals against, the Owen Sound side gave up 36 in 16 games; the 4th least in the league.
Therefore, you can easily see the issue for Grey Motors in Year 1 was generating offence.
And to that end, they’re going to be in search of snipers for the 2016 season.
But the challenge for the recruiters is, will they be preparing a club for the Central Region League or a lower division for next year ?
I’m Fred Wallace
