Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
Saturday night I went to interview Kevin McArthur as he made his regular season debut as a linesman in the Ontario Hockey League.
McArthur was willing, yet reluctant, having read something somewhere from the league forbidding the practice.
So we put it off.
If we had conducted the interview we could have traced McArthur’s roots in the OHL to his pre-school days when he used to assist Platers coach Jerry Harrigan when selecting the starting goalie in the early 90’s.
We would have spoken about family; how his uncle, John, was a National Hockey League official and also discussed a famous family photograph where he and his brother, Greg, worked as a team with their father to officiate a game at the old Coliseum.
Another avenue we could have travelled would have been the physical preparation required to get to the OHL training camp plus the process of the on-ice auditions in the exhibition season, front of the watchful eye of former ref Bill Prisniak.
There were a lot of items we could have explored with OHL linesmen Kevin McArthur, but for now, like a delayed offside, the activity is in limbo.
I’m Fred Wallace
