Welcome to August, a month in local sporting circles that actually got a kickstart late last month with the confirmation that racing legend Mario Andretti will be in Owen Sound on Thursday August 13th.
The Pickett Ride Centre announced that Andretti, one of only two drivers to win races in Formula One, IndyCar, World Sportscar Championship and NASCAR, will be at their location on 2nd Avenue East for half a day.
The Andretti legacy in the sport is wide ranging with more than 100 career wins on major circuits. He is a walking answer to what may become an historical trivia question….Name the last American driver to win a Formula One race……..Well, no American has won an F1 race since Andretti’s victory at the 1978 Dutch Grand Prix.
On the 13th at the Pickett Ride Centre, there will be a Meet & Greet from 10:45 am to 12:30 pm with the public invited to bring items to be signed.
Also as part of the affair, the Pickett Ride Centre will feature a Classic Car Show plus O-Share will be hosting a charity barbeque on the site.
August is just underway, but in the middle of the month, the Pickett Ride Centre has an event that is both unique and huge; Mario Andretti in the core of the city.
