Hi, this is Fred Wallace with Off the Wire, brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
As we head into Summer this weekend, there are numerous sporting activities indoors and outdoors.
Among the indoor events is a unique competition at the YMCA Owen Sound Grey Bruce.
The Y Pool is will be the host site for the Provincial Junior Lifesaving Sport Championships.
The event at the Y is being hosted in conjunction with the Lifesaving Society, the town of Saugeen Shores and the Saugeen Shores Lifesaving Club, a club which has truly embraced this competition for most of the decade.
In a nutshell, the championships do feature races, but more accurately these races are mostly challenges whereby the swimmers competing have to perform essential lifesaving duties in the pool as part of the race or contest- it’s not your typical swim meet by any stretch of the imagination.
But the profile of the championship is growing, certainly in our region with the Saugeen Club achieving major success.
And that success in competition translates quickly to proud and motivated lifesavers with an enhanced skill level with is terrific news for pools and waterways in our region.
I’m Fred Wallace
