Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic…..the Logical Choice !
I believe almost everything I’m told.
But this winter I heard a tale that I couldn’t imagine was accurate.
Sitting by myself, I was approached by a friend of Benny Redmond’s who told me about Benny’s passing this year, and in the course of the discussion, the man related how Benny defeated Eddie Feigner, the famed pitcher for the King & his Court.
Politely, I said nothing, but in my heart I knew Feigner’s record was staggering. The King & his 3 teammates barnstormed throughout North America with Feigner pitching from behind 2nd base, pitching blindfolded, striking out tens of thousands of batters.
‘ No WAY, did Eddie Feigner lose in Owen Sound ‘, I thought, secure in the knowledge that I’d never heard such a tale.
A short time later, a pile of scrapbook pages were delivered to the station outlining the exploits of Benny Redmond, Cotten’s Taxi & the Manjuris Greys.
Sure enough, among the items was a program from the King & His Court, likely from the early 60’s.
Inside the program were Sun Times clippings and articles outlining how the Manjuris Greys had defeated The King 3-0.
Benny Redmond, pitching 1 night after a 9 inning outing, did in fact get the win, limiting the Court to 6 hits and drawing rave reviews from the King himself, as following the game Feigner graciously illustrated some pitches Redmond might like to utilize in the future.
Eddie Feigner seldom lost. His win percentage was above 90 %.
But one night, somewhere in time, in Owen Sound, Ontario, the King was bested and the Court was blanked by Benny Redmond.
I’m Fred Wallace
