Hi this is Fred Wallace with Off the Wire, brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice
From out of the woodwork emerged a pretty good local story this week when Meaford’s Chevy Rennie won the Golf Association Men’s Amateur Qualifier at Cobble Beach Golf Links.
Rennie, a 21 year old student at Wilfrid Laurier University, put together a 3 over par 75 for the low score on the day and as a result, earns an automatic berth in the Ontario Men’s Amateur in July.
Interestingly, Rennie, who is a member at Meaford Golf & Country, relates a bogey was a significant factor in his successful round at Cobble..
Playing in moist and windy conditions, Rennie had two shots he wasn’t particularly happy with on the 9th hole.
However, he managed to make a 12 foot putt once he was on the green to save par on the 9th, and from there he put together a very solid back 9 to finish with the low score.
The Investors Group-Ontario Men’s Amateur is more than 7 weeks away.
In between now and Peterborough, Chevy Rennie will play in another GAO tournament, compete in some Great Lake Tour events plus attend the qualifier for the RBC Canadian Open.
That’s exciting. And it’s busy.
But come early July, Rennie states he’ll forgo all other golf events and focus squarely on the Ontario Men’s Amateur which begins July 14th at Peterborough Golf & Country.
