I once touched briefly on Thunder Highlands Golf Course, a truly unique experience for golfers, just off the Georgian Bay shoreline.
First of all, I’d never heard of Thunder Highlands until my buddy’s father gave it a glowing recommendation, so off we went to the course which is located near Lafontaine.

Well, you have to know where you’re going just to get to Lafontaine in the first place, so I’d suggest GPS.
When you get to Thunder Highlands, you won’t find any bold or neon signs, just a fire route number, I think it’s 175 Cynthia, and the impression you get is that you’re pulling into somebody’s cottage drive.
But once up that lane, what awaits is a 5 hole golf course, as good as any I play, carved out of the trees.
There’s a variety of tee boxes, so every hole, except the par three 5th, could be a par 4 or par 5 for challenge and variety.
And the atmosphere, is just you & golf & nature.
No buzz of the highway, no beer cart, no clubhouse, no pro shop and most interesting, no cash register. When you’re done your round, you slip a donation into the cash box under the gazebo back at the driveway
