Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic…..the Logical Choice !
There’s any number of avenues I could travel today.
From the Canadian Broomball Championships to the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection to Joey Hishon’s first NHL goal, there’s NO shortage of topics.
The topic I’ve chosen for today is the annual McDonald’s Canadian Record Challenge Meet, hosted by the Owen Sound Aquatic Club at the Y Pool this weekend.
The meet starts this afternoon and runs through the weekend, once again offering a delightful opportunity to the fleetest of swimmers.
Thanks to the participation of our local McDonald’s and various sponsors, any swimmer who topples an existing Canadian record during the meet will receive a payoff of $ 1,000.
It’s happened before in the short history of the meet and the estimation is 4 records will be threatened this weekend by visiting swimmers.
Meanwhile, from an Owen Sound standpoint, Joanne Diemert isn’t expected to grab a grand, but she will attempt to unify a variety of club records in the breaststroke.
Currently, multiple Owen Sound Aquatic Club records in the breaststroke are held by different club members from the past. With a solid weekend, Diemert’s hope is to hold every possible Owen Sound record in that discipline.
The McDonald’s Canadian Record Challenge commences this afternoon and runs through the weekend- just one of many sporting topics taking place this weekend.
I’m Fred Wallace
