The Owen Sound Garb & Gear Junior B NorthStars are 2 months away from hitting the floor.
The 20 game journey for the Junior NorthStars begins April 25th at Hamilton and will be followed by a couple of more road encounters before they play Guelph in their home opener on May 7th at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.
The Owen Sound Junior B club has not made a post season appearance since 2010, which might be viewed as a significant failure of the program.
I beg to differ.
Having seen all of those teams it’s pretty easy to understand that Owen Sound’s greatest failing is that their greatest prospects have been too good, talented enough to play Junior A elsewhere, leaving the NorthStars lacking star power year after year for the past half decade.
Again this year, the NorthStars could have a solid team if, and it’s a big IF, if the core of the best juniors stay in Owen Sound.
There’s an additional hope on the part of the NorthStars that if they do put a contending team on the floor for 2015, they would make a concerted bid to be the host team for the 2016 Founders Cup.
I know that looks like putting the cart before the horse, but the hope here, and elsewhere, is that the young horses stay in Owen Sound this year and next for what could be two remarkable seasons of Junior B Lacrosse.
