I was somewhat surprised by the reaction from Curtis Joseph last week at the Hometown Hockey event when I asked the former NHL goalie about playing for the Richmond Hill Dynes in the mid-80’s against the Owen Sound Greys……
Now in fairness to Curtis Joseph, he’s played an awful lot of hockey in a lengthy number of venues since the Dynes & Greys hooked up between 1985 & 87, so it’s understandable that he didn’t remember 5 or 6 trips to the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.
Having said that, I can’t imagine a more gracious individual than Curtis Joseph, who stood outside in the cold for two straight days in the Scotiabank Tent and signed a million items, all the while listening with interest to so many stories from people who relate to his playing days.
Curtis Joseph might not remember the Greys, but something tells me that Tony Fletcher, Mike Roberts, Trevor Wardell, Paul Reynolds, Ray Edwards, Greg Snyder & others remember shooting on him while Rob Campbell & Stephane Hebert can relate to opposing Joseph at the opposite end of the rink.
Tier Two Junior A Hockey in Owen Sound existed for just two years in the 1980’s, but the memories of some solid Owen Sound teams and star players, like goalie Curtis Joseph of the Richmond Hill Dynes, still exist almost 3 decades later.
