I’m tired………………very tired.
And sad……very sad.
Today might be the saddest day of my professional life.
You see, more than a decade ago, Dave Carr retired from Bayshore Broadcasting, ending a careeer that lasted 30 years on air.
On that very day, I vowed that I would retire after 29 years and 364 days here, allowing Dave Carr to hold the longevity record for being an on air performer.
Oh sure, there’s some managers who have been here twice that long,…….but they’re in management….and how tough is that ?……..It’s certainly not as grinding as flipping the mic on day after day after day after day after day………..That’s tiring.
And I’m tired. Very, ……………..very tired.
And the truly sad part is, on the day that I made that pledge, more than a decade ago, I honestly believed I’d cruise to today, December 9th, 2014.
But then the tech bubble burst.
And global disharmony erupted.
Next the good accountants of corporate America went crooked.
And we had a tiny little recession in 2008.
And now, the market rally has stalled due to the ” correction ” & the drop in oil prices.
And here I sit………hours away from my 30th anniversary…. yet several hundred thousand dollars shy of retirement………sad and tired.
…………………very……….very…..VERY tired.
I’m Fred Wallace
