In a series of major events this week, we can add the annual Regional Silver Stick Tournament to the list.
The Owen Sound Minor Hockey Group has hosted this event for decades, a prestigious tournament that determines who advances to the North American Silver Stick Finals which are hosted early in the New Year at Newmarket.
The Owen Sound Silver Stick is a ” Minor ” tournament, that is, designed for Minor Atom, Minor Peewee, Minor Bantam & Minor Midget teams.
There will be entries from the Junior Attack in 3 of the 4 divisions, Minor Bantam being the lone division without an Owen Sound representative.
Overall, 26 teams will be competing throughout the weekend in 4 separate age divisions for the right to advance to the International Championship Tournament in January.
Play starts Friday morning at both the Julie McArthur Regional Rec Centre & the Harry Lumley-Bayshore and leads to the divisional championship games Sunday afternoon at the Lum.
Girls basketball playoffs today at Kincardine, Boys Volleyball Finals on the horizon, the football championship Friday, big hockey games and promotions at Meaford & at Markdale…..it’s a busy week
