You can’t be everywhere, but on the first weekend in October, a pretty good choice of locations would be Meaford.
Friday night, for the first time-ever, I went to the Scarecrow Festival.
Usually the Attack are on the road, so through the years, I’ve never been to the festival, but now having been, I’m eager to return.
Sure, the rain started at the exact moment the parade commenced, and yes, the organizers told me the turnout was smaller than other years based on the weather, but all-in-all, what a remarkable gathering to celebrate the community.
And Congratulations to Ormsby’s Garden Centre on winning ” Patches ” for 2014.
The following day, I was back in Meaford for my second stint at the annual Coyotes Cross Country Meet.
Again, rain made an appearance, but hardly deterred the proceedings at Georgian Bay Secondary’s Athletic Field as 9 races were conducted in rapid fashion through the morning with some very impressive performances.
My big-league friends following Major League Baseball & Pro Football, will likely snicker at Scarecrow Festivals & Cross Country meets, but as Allan Johnson’s song says…………. ” Meet Me in Meaford “.
I’m Fred Wallace
