There will be a lot of puck dropping today, tomorrow & Sunday all within a mile or so in the city of Owen Sound.
Owen Sound Minor Hockey Group is conducting their annual Early Bird Classic and the expectation is that they will have 31 teams in a variety of age groups competing through the weekend.
While Tournament Chair Ted Schneider relates there have been larger fields in the past, the tournament is still large enough to occupy both ice pads at the Julie McArthur Regional Rec Centre plus the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre through the weekend.
All of the Championships games in the Early Bird Classic will be Sunday at the Bayshore, starting at noon and running throughout the afternoon.
Regardless of how big the tournament is, for those participating, it’s big in another sense, serving as great gauge and primer for the Minor Hockey season ahead.
