I spoke to Owen Sound pitcher Matt Wardrop one day last week, and truthfully, I think I was lucky to catch him.
Wardrop was just back from a stint with Canada’s entry at the World Junior Fastball Championship Tournament in Whitehorse.
Canada finished 7th at the event and while the outcome wasn’t satisfactory for Wardrop, he says the experience was phenomenal.
Coming out of the tourney, Wardrop has a true appreciation for intensity, focus and preparation for every moment in every game.
I mentioned I was lucky to catch him.
Barely back in the city, Wardrop was packing again to go with the Teeswater Otters to Napanee on the weekend for the Ontario Midget Championships.
Ahead this week, the Otters will travel to Newfoundland where once again Matt Wardrop will be in the circle.
And once the Otters are finished in Newfoundland, Wardrop will hop a plane and head across the country to Irma, Alberta to join the Owen Sound Selects at the Canadian Junior Championship Tournament.
Whitehorse, Napanee, Newfoundland & Irma. It’s not the bright lights tour of North America, but it’s still an impressive month of fastball pitching for Matt Wardrop.
I’m Fred Wallace
