I did okay in high school math, far from a genius, but well enough to know when things didn’t add up.
Using the Owen Sound Attack as an example, I’m having a hard time making the equation balance when it comes to who’s here, who’s coming and who might not be coming.
The equation I’m looking at has Dale DeGray, Greg Ireland, Darren Ferris, Victor Mete, Petrus Palmu and others all factored in.
Let’s start with Attack coach Greg Ireland who is well acquainted with Darren Ferris of ARC Sports Group, an agency.
Not totally, but at least partially, it’s thought the strength of that relationship put Owen Sound in a favorable position to acquire Jack Flinn & Brett Hargrave, both of whom are clients of Ferris, both of whom were afforded terrific opportunities last season.
Into the mix at the OHL Priority Selection in April comes Attack General Manager Dale DeGray, who deals for 2 second rounders before the draft so he can take a bit of a risk and select Victor Mete 8th overall
Mete expresses reluctance about coming to Owen Sound, the message delivered by his advisor…….Darren Ferris.
Then last week, at the CHL Import Draft, DeGray selects Petrus Palmu, who reportedly cannot wait to get to Owen Sound.
When I ask Dale DeGray, who Palmu’s agent is, he says, ‘ you’re going to laugh ‘ and informs me that Darren Ferris is Palmu’s rep.
So maybe someone with better math skills than mine can explain why Owen Sound & the Attack are good enough for Hargrave, Flinn & Palmu, yet unacceptable for Mete.
I’m confused.
