There are 7 Ontario Junior B Lacrosse games remaining that matter in the eyes of the Owen Sound Garb & Gear NorthStars.
The NorthStars are in 2 of those 7 games, and put quite simply, they need to sweep their final weekend of road games tomorrow at Wallaceburg & Saturday at Point Edward if they hope to gain a berth in the post season.
As Thursday unfolds, the Garb & Gear Juniors sit with a record of 6 & 12, good for 12 points and a share of the final playoff position in the Western Conference with Welland
The Generals also has 12 points, BUT have played one less game than Owen Sound, have one game remaining with Hamilton AND beat the NorthStars in their head to head matchup earlier in the season.
And let’s not forget Brampton who are just 1 point back of Owen Sound & Welland, and also have 3 games remaining, including a vital head to head against Welland.
Mathematically, Owen Sound could make the playoffs with one more victory, but they’d need Welland to drop all 3 of their remaining games, which is unlikely with a match against Hamilton, plus have Brampton win only their head to head with the Generals.
Truthfully, Owen Sound needs to go on the road & upset Wallaceburg Friday night, then follow with another victory at Point Edward on Saturday night.
And even that might not be enough to make the post season for the first time in 4 years.
I’m Fred Wallace
