I know the week is just getting started, but among the activities ahead next weekend that I’m highly anticipating is the annual Satellites Gymnastics Showcase.
I’ve been at the Showcase for the last 5 years or so, and it’s amazing to see the spectrum of performers and athletes going through the stream.
The youngest tumblers, who might just be tumbling on their own, all the way up to the club’s elite athletes, all have a chance to exhibit what they can do.
From year to year, it’s impressive to see the top gymnasts perform, and equally as impressive in many cases to see the development from one year to the next.
Key to that development is the coaching structure fronted by Florin Matei.
Matei himself, had a terrific experience recently where he was invited to judge at the Canadian Gymnastics Championships, a trial in which all of the contenders for berths on the Olympic team were in action.
Matei admits he enjoyed judging the very best in Canada, looks forward to going back in an expanded role in the future and is enthused for the Satellites that their club reputation within Ontario is high.
For an illustration of how gifted the elite are in the Satellites, stop by the club on Saturday.
I’m Fred Wallace
