Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
Jenny Lemon is back, not in the region, but back in Canada.
Earlier in the Spring, Lemon, a graduate of St Mary’s High School in Owen Sound, was a member of a Canadian Women’s Rugby entry that went to South America to compete in an international tournament based in Colombia.
There were several different levels of discovery throughout the process for Lemon.
First, while she knew she was being scouted for the team, she was among the last to be informed which admittedly caused her some anxiety & then obviously, great relief.
Next, the level of international play at the tournament was higher than Lemon expected.
The Canadian entry advanced to the tournament final with a sequence of victories but lost in the Championship Game by a couple of points to Colombia.
Finally, as part of the expedition, the Canadian team conducted rugby clinics with South American youngsters, all of whom truly enjoyed the attention, maybe as an escape from the economic realities they endure on a daily basis.
Making the Canadian team was great. Advancing to the Tournament Final was great.
But for Jenny Lemon, the absolute best part of the experience was the illustration of how simple joy, just learning a game or playing a game, can be so meaningful.
I’m Fred Wallace
