The annual Owen Sound Attack Barbeque & Awards Day is Saturday.
The day commences with a softball function at Duncan McLellan Park around 11 am, followed by the barbeque lunch at 1 pm at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre and then the presentation of awards will follow.
The day is an interesting mix of socializing conducted under the banner of business- the business being producing a competitive Ontario Hockey League entry.
To that end, we spoke to Attack General Manager Dale DeGray on a variety of topics..
DeGray believes that among the key activities Saturday is the opportunity for prospects and their families to meet the staff, meet the fans and view the facilities that some will call home within a few months
Next, the barbeque provides an opportunity to announce signings.
DeGray doubts he’ll make any announcements Saturday but stresses progress in varying cases is taking place.
As it pertains to reluctant first rounder Victor Mete, DeGray says there’s nothing pending in the short term.
Next, the OHL Trade Window opens early next month, and DeGray anticipates there will be a half dozen appealing names available. However, there’s no outward desire exhibited by Owen Sound to make a transaction.
Finally, the CHL Import Draft will be conducted in early Summer.
.
With frustration in his voice, DeGray relates the process is consuming and leaves is at that.
Enjoy the barbeque.
I’m Fred Wallace
