Well that was a grind.
The memories of the Hawaiian Tour with YMT Travel are very warm, but there’s no mental beatdown like going Kona to San Francisco to Toronto to Owen Sound.
I’m beat. And beat down.
Among the first things I did upon arrival was turn on the TV. And that didn’t help.
Exactly when did Canadian Television resort to airing the same 5 commercials and the endless string of repetitive promos.
Wasn’t there a time when we had some variety ?
Are production costs for Canadian TV spots so great that no one can afford them, so instead we get a saturation to the point of water torture.
I first noticed this during the World Junior Championships where the guy was trying to escape Winter while a horrible violin scratched at every turn.
True, the ad got my attention, but I promise you, I’ll NEVER use their service, unless they give me a free trip to Hawaii.
Then there was the Olympics, a two week assault of the same ads hour after hour.
Sure, I’ve got options, I don’t have to watch. I can always effectively use the ” mute ” button.
But I wonder, especially with big events like World Junior and Olympics, if we aren’t approaching a breaking point where there’s a viewer revolution all in the name of getting some variety when we take this short time out.
I’m Fred Wallace
