Aloha kakahiaka
We landed yesterday and we’re off on the Hawaiian vacation of a lifetime.
…..How you doin’ ?
We’re launching our visit with a city tour of Honolulu and Oahau today
While I’m not a big history buff, I’m eager to visit Pearl Harbour as part of the excursion
Another thing I’m not huge on is collections.
I’ve got some sports memorabilia, but it’s mostly personal things from athletes I know from our region who have succeeded at the highest level.
We got talking on the flight Wednesday about the value of things we threw out.
I know for a fact, I had the Original 6 Beehive Honey coins when the Leafs were winning Stanley Cups with more regularity than in recent times.
Plus, between 1969 and 1972, I must have had every NHL Hockey card ever packaged. I’ve still got the gum and the gum disease to prove it !
The genesis for the discussion was centered on a guy in Florida who has the Guinness Book of World records for signed baseballs, in excess of 4,000.
He started as a kid when Mickey Mantle, of all people, signed his first baseball and now in his 60’s, his collection is valued at $ 2 million- $ 3 million dollars !!
And as we rolled through the tours we all wondered what Beehive coins and Guy Lafleur’s rookie card would be worth today.
A hui hou kakou.
I’m Fred Wallace
