Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
The Owen Sound Attack nipped the Plymouth Whalers 2-1 last night in Ontario Hockey League play at the JD McArthur Arena.
With the result last night,, Plymouth is destined for an 8th place finish in the Western Conference, while the Attack, with 2 games to play, move to within 1 point of Saginaw for 6th place.
The Attack are right back in action tonight when they travel to London to go against the Knights and the trend.
The Knights, purely & simply own the Owen Sound squad, the statistics are both remarkable and discouraging.
Attack fans will tell you with pride that Owen Sound eliminated London on the road to the 2011 OHL Championship.
But from that moment on………….ouch !
The Knights have won 16 of the last 17 meetings, including 5 straight this year.
Sure, almost one third of those games have gone to extra time, but guess what ? London has won all 5 games in extra time or shootout.
On February 9th, 2001, Kyle McAllister scored in overtime as the Attack beat the Knights.
Since then, 15 of the next 16 games that were decided in overtime or by shootout between the two teams, have been won by London.
The lone exception was Garrett Wilson’s overtime goal in Game 1 of the OHL playoffs in 2011.
So, would you trade the Wilson goal and that series victory for a head-to-head streak like the Knights currently enjoy against Owen Sound ?
I’m Fred Wallace
