On a somewhat historic day in sports for the city of Owen Sound there were two major announcements before the sun came up.
First, in her Olympic debut in alpine skiing, Owen Sound’s Larisa Yurkiw garnered a 20th place finish.
Knowing Larisa through interviews, I think it’s a fair guess on my part to suggest she’s both thrilled with the performance and somewhat disappointed the finish wasn’t higher. That’s Larisa.
Just 1.89 second separated Yurkiw’s 20th place finish from the Gold Medal performances, historically turned in by a dead heat between Tina Maze & Dominque Gisin
Only hours after Yurkiw crossed the finish line, the 2014 Owen Sound Sports Hall of Fame Inductees were announced
Five Athletes: Bill Burlington, Blaine Courtney, Jamie Grimoldby, Al Hutchinson
& Paul Thornley will be inducted
Two Builders; Sharon McKeachnie & Andy van Dolder will join them
Plus, two bowling teams from the 80’s and special merit inductee Ted Reid will be honoured at the Induction Ceremony which is set for Friday May 9th at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre
Tickets for the event, which is always a great night, will be available in short order.
I’m Fred Wallace
