Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
Early in 2014 and the sporting calendar is dotted with curling activity at various levels.
In Sault Ste Marie, the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts is being hosted by the Soo Curlers Association, an association that has received a great deal of press in the last year or so based on the success of Brad Jacobs in Men’s Play.
But this is the ladies provincial playdown and among the rinks competing, starting today, is the Blue Water entry which won the ” B ” side at Challenge round
The Blue Water rink consists of Julie Reddick, Carrie Delahunt, Laura Hickey and Megan Balsdon.
Meanwhile, the Chesley-Tara Insurance Major Curling League resumes on Wednesday night, fittingly with matches in Chesley & Tara.
One scheduled match for Wednesday has already been played as frontrunners Dave Cobean & Steve Gregg met yesterday afternoon in Paisley, with Gregg winning 9-7.
That game was bumped up to allow Cobean to dart off to Gravenhurst where the Ontario Tim Hortons Masters Men’s Championship is being conducted.
The Cobean rink with Fred Fleet, Gary Cobean and Gerry Schwartz will play their first match on Wednesday.
Tomorrow in the women’s division, the Elaine Klassen rink from the Curling Club of Collingwood will play twice on the opening day of play.
From Chesley & Tara to Gravenhurst to Sault Ste Marie, there’s plenty of curling to be followed this week.
I’m Fred Wallace
