Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
I was in Meaford last night at the Greater Metro Junior A game between the Knights & the Toronto Predators.
Jesse Martel & the Knights won their 12th of the year, holdoing down the Toronto squad 3-1.
As we’ve documented, this is the first season of Knights hockey in Meaford.
At one point the prevailing question was, would they be successful enough to be a long term operation ? Sure, there’s been a significant rattle of late, but it appears that question was answered in a positive fashion a long time ago.
So we have a new question…… Can two Greater Metro Junior A teams exist in Grey County ?
Rod Leeson, the Facilities Manager for the Municipality of Grey Highlands, confirms an existing operation has approached the municipality and inquired about running a team out of Markdale begriming next season.
Leeson is very quick to stress two vital points.
# 1), the talks are in the most preliminary terms possible.
And # 2), the operators must present a solid business plan with viable long term potential before any further activity will proceed.
So in truth, we can’t answer whether Grey County can house two Greater Metro Junior A teams. Not at the moment. But, we’ll check back early into the New Year to see what might transpire.
Have a great weekend.
I’m Fred Wallace
