The Ontario Hockey League season commences tomorrow night and it appears the London Knights have been pre-ordained as league champions, making it a three-peat if it comes to fruition.
Next May, if London does win the championship, they will be the first three time winner of the Robertson Cup since the Peterborough Petes of 1977-1980, a club that featured former Attack coach Mark Reeds.
Speaking of the Attack, they open their season on Friday at Mississauga.
Owen Sound will get a quick diet of Eastern Conference teams as they meet the Steelheads, Peterborough, Barrie & Sudbury in sequence.
A year ago against those four clubs, Owen Sound had amazing success, picking up 21 of a possible 24 points available against the Colts, Petes, Wolves & Steelheads.
But that was last year. This year, Barrie has the remnants of a team that nearly stunned London in the OHL Final while Mississauga, Peterborough and Sudbury are all expected to be better than they were last year.
And that’s the good news.
The bad news is, following the opening 4 games, Owen Sound goes headfirst into divisional play, in sequence going against London, Guelph, Kitchener and Erie.
Welcome to the 25th year of OHL Hockey in Owen Sound
I’m Fred Wallace
