Fastball Championship tournaments have been front and centre for the past two weeks.
There’s still a buzz regarding the recent Canadian Junior Championships at Duncan McLellan Park which was won by the Wiarton Red Devils
The Red Devils & the Nationals were both at their respective ISC Championships last week in Quad Cities.
And just yesterday, the Desboro Bantam Girls departed for Cornwall, Prince Edward Island for the Eastern Canadian Championship tournament.
Among those returning from a major fastball tournament is Williamsford’s Torrie Courtney.
Courtney, a Midget aged player who has been playing Junior at Palmerston, was invited to join the Palmerston Midgets for the Canadian Under 18 Girls Championship on Prince Edward Island.
The trip couldn’t have gone much better, with Palmerston taking the title with a 5-2 win over Milverton and Courtney coming home not only with the Gold medal, but also a couple of MVP awards from tournament games; one in which she pitched, another where she was Palmerston’s designated hitter.
You hear it day after day, year after year, that softball-fastball, is a dying sport.
But you’d be hard pressed to make that assertion based on the recent success and experiences for regional teams and players.
