Summer started Friday morning and in a flash we’re into the heart of fastball season.
The Legends Tournament was staged last weekend in Kitchener with the Owen Sound Selects running the table with a perfect mark of 6 & 0
The Selects climaxed the championship with a victory over the Wiarton Red Devils in the championship game
The Keady Jets were also at Kitchener. They were eliminated by Tavistock in the quarterfinals.
This weekend in Owen Sound, the OASA Junior Men’s Fastball Championship Tournament will be conducted at Duncan McLellan Park.
Play starts Friday afternoon on both the Major & South diamonds and continues through the weekend leading to the Championship Game Sunday afternoon at 2 pm
Like last weekend, the Selects, Jets and Red Devils are in the field of 12 teams competing this weekend.
The Red Devils were to play in the opening match Friday at 5 on the Major diamond against the ORSA reps. However, ORSA has withdrawn which will give the Red Devils a bye to Round 2 at 9 pm
If Wiarton wins, they’ll play again Friday night at 9 against St Mary’s
The Selects who are hosting the event, will play their first game Friday night at 7 against Oshawa.
And the Keady Jets will play Friday evening at 9 pm when they open against the winner of the Napanee-Fingal from earlier in the day.
More than 12 hours of ball will be staged on Saturday followed by the quarterfinal, semifinal and Championship games on Sunday.
The top finishers from the OASA Championship Tournament will advance to the Canadian Junior Championship Tournament later this summer which will also be at Duncan McLellan Park, hosted by the Keady Jets.
Welcome to summer & the heart of fastball season.
I’m Fred Wallace
