As a kid, I was a pretty frequent church goer and truly enjoyed the bible stories at Knox Presbyterian Sunday School.
Daniel in the Lion’s Den, Moses in the bulrushes, Jonah in the Great Fish, Zacchaeus in the sycamore tree and of course, David & Goliath.
There’s no truth to the rumour that Goliath was from Orangeville or that David was a resident of Owen Sound, but centuries later you could understand that perception.
The Orangeville Northmen are Goliath contrasted to the Garb & Gear NorthStars of Owen Sound when it comes to Junior B Lacrosse this season.
Orangeville leads the Midwest Division at 13 & 2. The NorthStars are 0 & 15.
Furthermore, 3 nights ago, the Goliath-like Northmen swarmed the Owen Sound squad and posted a lopsided 19-3 victory.
In my bible studies, I don’t remember David and Goliath having a rematch, but that’s the scenario facing the Garb & Gear NorthStars tonight when they host Orangeville at 8 pm at the JD McArthur Arena.
I might just pack some stones and a sling and pass it along to the Owen Sounders who in Samuel like fashion will be out to upset the Philistines of Orangeville.
I’m Fred Wallace
