The Ontario Hockey League has issued their ballot for the Red Tilson Award, presented annually to the Most Outstanding Player.
The award has 20 nominees, one from each OHL member team, and the selection is made by the media who submit their top 3 choices in 1-2-3 order, with the first selection getting 5 points, the second gets 3 points & the third pick getting 1 point.
The player who accumulates the most points wins the Tilson.
At one point, for me, it was cut & dried. My 3 selections in alphabetical order would have been; Seth Griffith of London, Boone Jenner from Oshawa and Niagara’s Ryan Strome.
However, Griffith on a deep team, broke his hand while Strome and the IceDogs slipped in my opinion.
Furthermore, a number of other nominees popped into the equation; Mark Scheifele, Malcolm Subban & Vincent Trocheck among them.
So, the ballot I sent to the OHL reads as follows for the Red Tilson Award;
1) Boone Jenner, Oshawa Generals
2) Vincent Trocheck, now of the Plymouth Whalers
& 3) Jordan Binnington of the Owen Sound Attack.
Will that be the league wide final finish ? I doubt it, but I’m content with those choices for the 2013 Red Tilson Award
I’m Fred Wallace
