It’s March 1st, a great time of the year, especially in small town Ontario with their hockey playoffs in full swing
Take your pick, either WOAA Senior or Junior C, these are exciting to very exciting times.
In the WOAA Senior Hockey Playoffs in the North tonight, the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks host Shelburne in game 3 of their series. The Winterhawks lead 2 games to none.
Meanwhile, Ripley goes to Elora for game 3 of that North semifinal which is tied at 1.
Plus in the Senior A Playdowns tonight, the Shallow Lake Crushers open at home against the Durham Thundercats.
Then, there’s the Junior C playoffs
The Western Junior C Championship commences tonight in Walkerton where the Hawks, who have been perennial champions for the last half decade, go against the Kincardine Bulldogs in the opener.
To this point, the Bulldogs have played 4 playoff games while Walkerton has played 11, narrowly squeezing by Mount Forest in the semifinal
And in the Georgian MidOntario Junior C semifinals, the defending provincial champion Alliston Hornets host the Penetanguishene Kings tonight in Game 5 of that series.
The Hornets lead and need one more win to advance to their League final against the Midland Flyers who haven’t been to the league championship series since 1986
It’s been a long time for Midland, but like many communities in small town Ontario, that’s what makes this time of the hockey season so special.
Have a great weekend.
I’m Fred Wallace
