Without getting into the politics of the scenario, you know there’s been a staggering lack of high school sports to report this year.
And that’s a shame.
Having said that, the Catholic schools in our area have managed to string together several events, among them curling.
On Tuesday, the Adam Alpaugh rink from St Mary’s High School in Owen Sound will play an OFSAA Qualifying game at Galt.
If they’re victorious, the St Mary’s rink, which went 3 & 0 in Pool play, will earn a spot at the OFSAA Championship in Ottawa which is set for late March.
To this point, the Mustangs curlers have defeated Guelph CVI, Westside of Orangeville and a high school from Perth. Now they need one more victory to get to OFSAA.
Adam Alpaugh’s rink includes Alex Alpaugh at vice, Caleb Pfeiffer as the second and lead Garrett Weber.
Normally, Tyler Twining is the vice on the Alpaugh rink, but he was unavailable for the Pool playdowns due to injury.
That’s not to say Twining hasn’t been busy. He plays for a Bantam rink based out of Niagara Falls that has advanced to the Ontario Bantam Boys Championship which commences this afternoon at the Navy Curling Club in Ottawa.
