Can we take a little more curling ?
The marquee event of the men’s competitive season wrapped up yesterday in Barrie with the conclusion of the Ontario Men’s Curling Championship
Glenn Howard of Coldwater won the Tankard beating Joe Frans of Bradford 7-5 in the final.
Plus, Wayne Morton of Port Elgin skipped the Central Bruce Sliders to the Ontario Special Olympics title in dramatic fashion.
But that’s far from the end of the competitive season in these parts as 3 different functions are on the horizon tonight, Wednesday & Sunday at 3 different venues
The Chesley-Tara Mutual Insurance Major Curling League concluded their regular season last week, with Jeff Thomson of Chesley taking first place with a mark of 11 & 3
Thomson and 6 other rinks qualified for the playoff round, leaving just one position to be filled.
Tonight at the Paisley Curling Club, the Scott Ballantyne rink of Tara will take on Kincardine’s Craig Milburn tonight in the sudden death tiebreaker for 8th place in the standings.
The winner tonight will advance to meet Thomson in one of 4 playoff matches set for Wednesday night at the Port Elgin Curling Club starting at 9 pm
The other matchups Wednesday will pit;
Les Shane vs Curtis Cassidy
Al Hutchinson vs Steve Gregg
& Don Bartley vs Brent Keeling
After Wednesday, the 4 winning rinks will go down the Championship side on Sunday at Walkerton while the 4 losing rinks on Wednesday will also be in Walkerton on Sunday playing for the ” C ” and ” D ” crowns.
The winner doesn’t go to Edmonton for the Brier, but in what has been a very competitive season to this point, the climax of the Chesley-Tara Mutual Insurance League gets rolling tonight
