We’re just nicely into 2013, so why not look back at 2012
The Owen Sound Grey Motors United Soccer Club had their year end awards banquet over the Christmas Break, and there was plenty to celebrate after they captured the York Region Soccer League’s Premier Division Championship in 2012.
Grey Motors United claimed the title in September with a convincing 4-0 win over Collingwood in the Championship match
Owen Sound Captain Aaron Illman was voted the Most Valuable Player on the club.
For Illman, in his 9th year with the team, he becomes the first player to win the MVP honour 3 years in a row.
Goaltender Adam Walton selected for the Best Team Player trophy as the most sportsmanlike player. For Walton, he’s also won that award 3 years in a row.
Another midfielder, Oliver Clark, a graduate of Owen Sound Minor Soccer, was selected as Grey Motors’ Rookie of the Year.
Blair Weinberger also won an award for the third time; the fullback whose been with United for 5 years was chosen the Best Defensive player
The other award winner for Grey Motors United was Striker Brandon Twining who was the Top Goal Scorer with 9 goals.
Owen Sound Grey Motors United has won the York Region Soccer League Premier Division title previously, but winning in back to back seasons is always tough in what was a tight group of 6 this past season
With the awards day now behind them, Grey Motors now goes about planning to defend that championship in 2013.
