It’s been awhile, or it seems like quite a while, since we’ve had an Ontario Hockey League game here in the city.
About two weeks ago, the Owen Sound Attack conquered Brampton 4-1 in the final game before the Christmas Break and effective tomorrow, it’s back to business for the Owen Sound squad.
However, when the Attack do return to host the Erie Otters tomorrow, they’ll have a different look than what will be considered to be normal in some 2 weeks.
The head coach Greg Ireland will watch from the sidelines again, serving the third of a 5 game suspension for an egregious act, apparently, at Guelph 2 weeks ago.
Greg’s been gone so long, he may have to re-introduce himself to the players when he does return.
Of course, the goaltending tandem is also different with Brandon Hope & Aaron Taylor partnered.
Netminder Jordan Binnington is a member of Canada’s National Junior team at the World Junior Championships which commenced yesterday with a 9-3 win over Germany.
Binnington who was the backup yesterday and will serve in that capacity again tomorrow, will be away from the Attack likely until January 9th.
And both Attack underagers, Jake Middleton & Jaden Lindo are in the province of Quebec at the World Under 17 Challenge, and will be away into early January as well.
So the Attack that hit the ice tomorrow, will only somewhat resemble the lineup on the horizon.
Still, after a lengthy wait, it’s nice to know the OHL’s return to Owen Sound for the second half of the season is at hand.
I’m Fred Wallace
