It’s not a big deal, really, but I laughed when I saw Alex Galchenyuk was named as the Ontario Hockey League Player of the Week.
Why ?
Well, as good as Galchenyuk may have been, it’s hard for me to imagine he was better than London’s Seth Griffith.
Griffith had one of those perpetually-in-the-spotlight weekends as London hit the Christmas Break on a franchise record 21 game win streak.
Friday night, London established their new club record at 19 straight beating the Owen Sound Attack 3-2.
It was Teddy Bear Toss Night in London and Griffith opened the scoring for the Knights on a power play, to ignite the shower of bears.
But it was far from his most significant goal of the game or weekend.
The Attack tied the game with their net empty and an extra attacker on the ice with only 24 seconds to play, but Griffith made sure there was no Owen Sound celebration when he deflected home the dramatic game winner with just 4 seconds to play.
The following afternoon at Guelph, the Knights extended the streak to 20, nipping the Storm in a shootout at the Sleeman Centre. Guess who scored the shootout winner !
And then Sunday afternoon back at the Budwesier Gardens, Griffith scored the overtime marker as the Knights made it 21 straight beating Kingston 6-5.
There is a faction of OHL observers who feel Griffith deserved an invitation to Canada;s National Junior Camp and suggest he could have/should have made it.
That may be accurate, but if he did go off to the World Juniors, would London have won 21 in a row ?
