It’s been more than 30 years, but I still chuckle at Bill Murray in ” Caddyshack ” trying to kill the gopher at Bushwood Golf & Country.
In one sequence, Murray, playing ” Carl ” the assistant greenskeeper, reaches into the hole trying to grasp the rodent, only to be bitten by the gopher.
Murray, clutching his aching digit, proclaims, ” well, I guess, the fooling around is pretty much over ! “
Kills me every time.
Here in Owen Sound, the fooling around is pretty much over for the Attack.
You may wonder what I’m talking about based on the Attack record, in particular their success on the road and the fact that a 15 game winning streak by London is keeping them just barely above the Attack for first overall.
Fair enough.
But have you seen the remainder of the Attack schedule ?
With 39 games to go, by my count, Owen Sound has 5 games with Guelph, 4 games with London & Barrie plus 3 each with Kitchener and Plymouth starting tonight when the Whalers come to town for a 7 pm start at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore.
And let’s not forget 3 additional games with Niagara & Oshawa combined.
Quick math indicates 22 of the final 39 regular season games for the Attack are against the contenders.
Yes, the fooling around is pretty much over.
I’m Fred Wallace
